It was a thrilling night of action on the VISA FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup tour as the legendary Bad Gastein provided the setting for a mixed team parallel race. It was the first of two team events on this season’s World Cup calendar as Bad Gastein hosted a World Cup event for the 25th consecutive year.

Austria had four entries in the field but only the top-ranked team of Andreas Prommegger and Sabine Payer (AUT) made it through to the semifinals. The powerful duo put together solid runs to cruise towards the top of the podium in front of the cheering home crowd. There were 4000 fans in attendance over the two days.

It was a bounce back day for Payer who was knocked out in the quarterfinals by eventual winner Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) yesterday. Payer beat Hofmeister this time around as they went head-to-head in the big final.

“It was my best run today. I managed to keep it clean on the first three gates after some troubles there yesterday. It was really nice to ride with Andi (Prommegger), he always managed to give an advantage so thank you (looks at Prommegger),”Payer said.

The duo won the mixed team event at Bad Gastein last season. The pair won two of three team events last season.

It was a rewarding few days in Bad Gastein for Prommegger. He took second in the individual parallel slalom event on Tuesday. A result that left him exhausted for the team event on Wednesday.

“I just wanted to win today. Yesterday, it was such a long, hard day. It was amazing with the podium but I knew with Sabine (Payer) on my side we could win this race. So for Bad Gastein and Snowboard Austria, it is a perfect ending,” Prommegger said. “We had to give it all and I knew I was tired but I gave it my best and Sabine had the best run in the final so it worked.”

It was another good result in the bounce back for Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) as she and Stefan Baumeister (GER) teamed up for second place. The German duo advanced to the final after Switzerland 2 were disqualified after Dario Caviezel (SUI) missed a gate in the semifinals. It was the 50th career World Cup podium for Hofmeister.

The Switzerland 2 team of Caviezel and Zogg (SUI) then settled for fourth place in the small final. Their Swiss teammates Gian Casanova and Flurina Neva Baetschi (SUI) took out their countrymen to snag the last place on the podium.

It was the second career podium for Casanova after winning the team event in Winterberg 2022. It is also the second career World Cup podium for the 21-year-old Baetschi after her third-place finish in Davos earlier this season.

Rounding out the top five was the Austrian pair of Alexander Payer and Claudia Riegler (AUT). The pair looked strong in the early rounds but could not match the mighty top Austrian team in the quarterfinals. Two Italian teams and the remaining two Austrian teams followed behind them.

MIXED TEAM PARALLEL RESULTS

  1. A. Prommegger / S. Payer (AUT) - 100 points

  2. S. Baumeister / R.T. Hofmeister (GER) - 80 points
