French and Italian teams win Team SBX in Erzurum
Aug 31, 2018·Snowboard CrossThe reigning World Champions from France, who had already won the first team event in Montafon last month, celebrated a back-to-back win in dominant fashion bringing home a wire-to-wire victory in the women's final.
Like in Austria a few weeks ago it was Moenne Loccoz capitalising on her magnificent starting skills successfully going for the hole shot.
Yesterday's fourth ranked rider of the individual event then managed to break away from her three rivals and to send her teammate Trespeuch on the course again with a huge lead.
And yesterday's runner-up left no doubt on who is the fastest on the 750 metres long track smoothly bringing home the win to extend the World Cup lead (2,000) of FRA1.
The women's podium was rounded out by Czech athletes Vendula Hopjakova and Eva Samkova as well as Canadians Meryeta Odine and Zoe Bergermann in second and third, respectively.
While the women's final was an easy one for the strong duo from France, the men's final heat was a close one and took place with a thrilling photo decision.
After Team USA2 and AUT1 had controlled the first half of the finals, it was Emanuel Perathoner storming from four to two after his late start to give his teammate Omar Visintin the chance to mix it up again.
And since the 28-year-old is currently having a streak of two consecutive wins under his belt Visintin got on course with a lot of self-confidence.
Being able to keeping his momentum of the past World Cup stops, he finally had the whip hand over his rivals bringing the nose of his board over the finish line first.
Austrian's Alessandro Haemmerle and Markus Schairer placed second with Alex Deibold and Nate Holland from the USA taking third.
Securing the second rank finish today, Haemmerle and Schairer were able to take over the World Cup lead with 1,600 points from Spanish duo Regino Hernandez and Lucas Eguibar (1,500) who finished fourth today.
The Snowboard Cross World Cup tour will continue next weekend with an individual sprint race slated for 27th January 2018 in Bansko, Bulgaria.
