Passerat and Bozzolo of France take junior worlds mixed team gold
Apr 02, 2019·Snowboard CrossReiteralm (AUT) - The second and final day of competition at the Reiteralm 2019 FIS Snowboard Cross Junior World Championships went down in history as the first time for mixed team competition at the junior worlds, with France’s Loan Bozzolo and Chloe Passerat earning the honours as the first gold medal winners of the event in an exciting morning of racing.
After being announced last summer as the newest snowboard competition to be added to the Olympic programme for the upcoming Beijing 2022 Games, mixed team SBX made a highly successful competition debut at the Utah 2019 world championships this past February. And, now, the new format has been proven for the up-and-coming next generation of SBX stars.
Both Bozzolo and Passerat come into Tuesday’s action fresh off medal winning performances in Monday’s individual event, with 19-year-old Bozzolo earning double junior world champion honours with his second gold in as many days, and 16-year-old Passerat stepping up a notch by adding mixed team gold to her individual silver.
Second place and the silver medal went to team Switzerland 1, as 18-year-old Sina Sigenthaler and 19-year-old Gabriel Zweifel were both able to earn their first pieces of junior worlds hardware with a strong team showing on Tuesday.
Third place and the bronze medal went to team Italy 1, as Ester Gross and Filippo Ferrari of the least experienced team on the Reiteralm mixed team podium (with just four World Cup starts between them) was able to out-battle team France 2 for the final spot on the podium.
And, with the conclusion of Tuesday’s mixed team snowboard cross junior world championships competition, so too ends the major competition calendar for FIS Snowboard Cross. We’ll see you all in just a few short months, though, when the 2019/20 World Cup season gets underway in September at Cerro Catedral (ARG)!
