Monday Mix - August 12, 2019

Welcome to this week's edition of the Mix, where we'll be looking back at the first week of competition on the Australia New Zealand Cup circuit, looking ahead to the start of the World Cup season at the FIS Snowboard big air World Cup in Cardrona (NZL), and collecting some of the week's best social media moments, all here to help start your week off right!

SBX and big air ANC events go down in Oz

The Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) got underway last week down under, and although some heavy weather interfered with both the snowboard cross programme at Hotham and the slopestyle competition scheduled for Perisher, organizers at both venues were able to successfully complete at least a part of their events schedule.

Hotham SBX action saw Australian national team member Cameron Bolton claim the win in the men's race, while Christina Taylor, also of Australia, took the victory for the women. Read the full recap HERE.

Meanwhile, over at Perisher, a modified programme saw two big air competitions go down on the same day, with the first event seeing Katie Ormerod (GBR) making a triumphant return to the top of the podium after missing much of the last two seasons due to injury in the women's event, and 14-year-old Valenino Guseli (AUS) taking top spot in the men's competition. Then, in the second round of big air action, it was Alexandra Chen (AUS) and Daniel Alkefjaerd (SWE) walking away with the wins.

Chumpy follow-cams for Australian young guns

Some more SBX action out of Oz, as the legend Alex "Chumpy" Pullin hopped on course with up-and-coming riders Jessica Dickson, Josie Baff, Mia Clift, and Taya-Lilli Dent for a little follow-cam action, as the young women of Australian snowboard cross took a lap through the Hotham course. Not bad, considering Pullin was just using a handheld phone for the shot...

Pullin also spent a little time in front of the camera last week alongside Bolton, with this nice slow-mo clip showing you how a couple of the best in the business properly handle a start section...

FIS Snowboard big air World Cup Cardrona draws closer

Its now less than two weeks before the start of the 2019/20 World Cup season at the FIS Snowboard big air World Cup Cardrona (NZL), and more information and rider confirmations are coming through every day. And, with the likes of Chris Corning (USA), Jamie Anderson (USA), Red Gerard (USA), Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (NZL), Sebastian Toutant (CAN), Reira Iwabuchi (JPN), and many other big names currently slated to throw down on the massive Cardrona big air kicker, excitement is building steadily.

Chris Corning hits the airbag

Speaking of Chris Corning and Cardrona, the reigning slopestyle world champion and crystal globe winner appears to be kicking it into high gear as he gets ready to repeat last season's win at the FIS Snowboard big air World Cup in Cardrona on August 25, as he dropped this edit of some airbag action in Park City from last week. Few can match the 19-year-old when he's at the top of his game, and it's looking like he might be getting pretty close to that level already...

Nicholls and Fuller keep the feed fresh

Two of GBR's finest came through with some solid entertainment this week, as Jamie Nicholls and Aimee Fuller blessed the timeline with that good content.

First up is Nicholls, who posted this clip of what can either be described as a "switch cartwheel boardslide 270 out," or more simply as "something completely bonkers."

Then there's Fuller, who went for a #tbt of a nice, extended pond skim in some comfortable summer attire...

Marcus Kleveland stomps a new one

When Marcus Kleveland (NOR) describes a trick as "one of the weirdest feeling" he's ever done, you know it's time to sit up and take notice, as few other snowboarders in the world have as innovative a bag of skills as the 20-year-old. This one appears to be a triple cork backside 1080 - which is, quite frankly, tough to comprehend. Getting three corks in while spinning this slowly is just incredibly difficult. Extremely good stuff here...

Aleksandra Krol goes indoor skydiving

The riders of the alpine SB World Cup don't traditionally get to spend too much time in the air, but that didn't stop Poland's Aleksandra Krol from including a little indoor skydiving into her off-season training last week...

Alex Deibold gets Jonathan Cheever on his podcast

US snowboard cross teammates Alex Deibold and Jonathan Cheever sat down for the latest episode of Deibold's podcast last week, and it's a good one, as the two old friends look back on life coming up through the ranks of one of the world's most competitive snowboard nations, maintaining the snowboard life with a blue collar background, and looking forward to what the future might bring for a couple of strong veterans.

Supergrom Vasilisa Ermakova hits the news in Russia

We'll finish things off this week in Russia, where five-year-old supergrom Vasilisa Ermakova caught the attention of 360 TV Moscow, who profiled the pint-sized ripper this past weekend. Even if you don't speak Russian, the on-snow clips at the start of this video speak volumes about just how good Ermakova is and how truly incredible she could become...
