©GEPA: Sadly, no ski and snowboard cross action going down at the Seebuck slope in Feldberg next season

The initially planned World Cup races for ski and snowboard athletes at the German resort of Feldberg will not be able to be carried out in the upcoming season. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and the therefore implemented restrictions, the organizing committee, together with the German Ski Association (DSV), Snowboard Germany and FIS came to the conclusion to not hold the World Cup events in the upcoming winter season.

After the cancellation of the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup last year due to weather challenges faced, the people in charge and the community of Feldberg had changed the event concept a couple of weeks ago, creating wide-ranged synergies between professional sports, touristic use and overlapping organizational topics.

The current situation, however, led to the assessment of all parties involved that there is too much of a risk at stake which lead to the impossibility to plan the event, especially due to the uncertainty of frame conditions, which will need to be implemented. The organizational, sportive and economical hazards linked to this unsteady situation, are simply too high.

The German federations and the OC want to use this forced one-year break to improve the overall event concept. The joint declared goal is to welcome back the world’s best ski and snowboard cross athletes at the World Cup at Feldberg in the winter of 2022/23.

It is really unfortunate to announce this decision and it is certainly not because of the lack of motivation of the organizing committee and all parties involved, however the ongoing uncertainty about the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s restrictions definitely presents a risk that is disproportionate for the event organizer,” Uwe Beier, FIS Snowboard Cross race director states.

I have seen the organizing committee of Feldberg give their best and fight to save last year’s competitions, however the weather challenges really forced us to give up. That’s why I am really disappointed that we cannot give this group of highly motivated people another chance this upcoming season, but we completely understand that the risks linked to the uncertainty of the planned events are too high for the organizing committee," Klaus Waldner, FIS Ski Cross race director adds.

Nevertheless, we want to thank the OC at Feldberg for their tremendous efforts and their high motivation to hold World Cup events in the beautiful area of the Hochschwarzwald,” Waldner concludes.

We thank the organizing committee of Feldberg for their efforts and can’t wait to be back in the season of 2022/23 to continue what started for snowboard cross athletes in 2016 and for ski cross athletes in 2017: always a great fight for World Cup points at the Seebuck slope.
