Chris Corning takes the win as well as the crystal globe at the season’s grand finale in Seiser Alm

The final slopestyle event of the season went in the books on Saturday in Seiser Alm’s perfectly shaped snowpark, with Chris Corning (USA) taking home the win as well as the slopestyle World Cup title after an exciting competition on the Italian soil.

Corning dominated the men’s event with his superb first run including a solid rail line of a backside 270 in to 270 out, a switch backblunt to 50-50 to backside 360 out, frontside 180 to switch backside 360 out, followed by equally impressive kicker game with a switch backside 900, a backside triple cork 1440 and a frontside 1080 to finish things off.

87.11 points and the 18-year-old US snowboarder grabbed his fourth World Cup victory and his second this season after taking the top spot in big air at another Italian event in Milan back in November.

Not only did Corning manage to grab the win in Seiser Alm, but by taking another 1000 points to the World Cup ranking he took over the top spot, edging out his US teammate Redmond Garard by a slightest of margins with 50 points.

“I’m super stoked,” Corning said, “That’s why I came here to Italy to get this globe. I had to win today to make it happen, but I did. I’m also happy that Lyon (Farrell) stomped his run and I’m stoked to share the podium with him”.

The second place on the day went to Fridtjof Tischendorf (NOR) for his first international podium of the season as well as the very first World Cup podium finish.

Tischendorf received 84.36 point for his run including a frontside 270 in to regular, a frontboard 270 out and a backside 180 cab to 360 out on jibb features as well as a switch backside 900 and back-to-back frontside and backside double cork 1080s on the jumps.

“I was sick coming here so just making it through into the finals felt really good,” Tischendorf said, “I was actually pretty hyped about falling on my first run, becasue then I get all the fire coming into the next round and it builds up a lot of anticipation and a feel just so good when you put it down when it counts.”

Lyon Farrell (USA) rounded out the men’s podium on third with 81.60 points also for his career’s first World Cup podium finish.  Farrell’s run consisted of a cab 270 in, a half cab 50-50 to backside 360 out, a frontside 180 to switch backside 360 out, a cab 900 nose to indy grab, a backside triple cork 1440 and a frontside double cork 1080.

“I’ve been coming to Seiser Alm for the last three years and I just really enjoy it here,” Farrel said, “I was nervous for sure before dropping in, because I really wanted to put down a run here so ending up on the podium here is amazing and I’m really happy now.”

The final stop of the FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup tour will take place in Canada next week as Quebec City is set to host a big air competition as part of the famous Jamboree festival.
