16-year old Tess Coady of Australia and 17-year old Chris Corning of the United States took the Junior World Championship titles in slopestyle on 31st March 2017 in Spindleruv Mlyn (CZE).

In the final run of the ladies’ event, Coady convincingly prevailed with a score of 94.25 to win gold. Japan’s Reira Iwabuchi won silver with 87.50 and Elli Pikkujamsa of Finland rounded out the podium with a score of 84.00.

Coady produced a strong sixth-place finish at the slopestyle World Cup event in Spindleruv Mlyn last Saturday. Competing on the same course, she was feeling confident ahead of the event: “It will be good to ride an already familiar course again, as there were three more days to practice on it so plenty of time to change up and add things into my run,” she said.

Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Corning topped the podium with a score of 96.75 ahead of teammate Judd Henkes (92.25). Tiarn Collins of New Zealand finished narrowly behind with a score of 92.00 to take bronze.

Gold medallist Corning crowned an incredibly successful season at the same venue where he won the final FIS World Cup slopestyle event of the season last Saturday.

He was coming into Spindleruv Mlyn with silver in big air and bronze in slopestyle from the recent senior FIS Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada (ESP).

At the Junior World Championships in 2016, he won gold both in big air and slopestyle and was the top favourite coming into the 2017 edition.
