Impressive big air structure takes shape in Quebec City

The 2017-18 FIS Snowboard World Cup season will wrap up things with a bang as the circuit returns to downtown Quebec City for its big air finals staged at the famous Jamboree presented by Vidéotron.

The construction work for the massive ramp already began back in December, and like the previous years, the incredible structure is built right in between two highways at L’Îlôt Fleurie attracting some of the world's finest to compete in an unique scenery.

In fact, several medallists of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games have already confirmed their attendance with the entry list featuring the likes of Max Parrot (CAN), Laurie Blouin (CAN), Anna Gasser (AUT), Jamie Anderson (USA) and Red Gerard (USA).

About the FIS Big Air World Cup at Jamboree

• 10th edition of the big air at L’Îlot Fleurie in downtown Quebec City (started in 2009)

• The biggest big air in Canada

• One of the only big air on the World Cup tour integrating the natural environment into the ramp structure, so less scaffolding is needed

• 40 metres (131 feet) high and 91 metres (300 feet) long

• Start 6.1 metres (20 feet) wide

• Jump 3.6 metres (12 feet) high, 6.1 metres (20 feet) wide and 12.40 metres (41 feet) long

• 250,000 lbs = weight of the structure, not including snow

• 10,000 cubic feet of snow needed for the structure

• Crew of more than 50 people hard at work for 10 weeks

By 18 March, all the construction, snow coverage and site set-up work will be completed, giving athletes the opportunity to train ahead of the grand finale slated for Saturday, 24 March and spectators the chance to enjoy the long weekend of Jamboree festivities.
