The 21-year old has sustained a tendon rupture in his left shoulder joint falling in first run of the finals of the Olympic debut of big air at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games which he finished in sixth position.

As a result, Schaerer is forced into a break of six to nine months therefore experiencing an unloved deja-vu as as he had wrapped up a competition trip to South Korea with the same injury two years ago.

“It's like waking up from a great dream. At one moment, you are at the top of your game, competing at the Olympics. And right in the next moment, a shocking diagnose gets you back to reality.

But the olympics and the season in general have shown that I'm able to catch up with the world's best again. This will help me to make it through the upcoming months. What worked once, will work out fine again,” he said.
