Owned and operated by the Aspen Skiing Company, Snowmass is the largest of the four Aspen/Snowmass mountains, comprising around 1,266 ha.
Most notable for its wide cruiser runs and family-friendly atmosphere, the first ever Snowmass FIS Snowboard World Cup will draw attention to the terrain parks, which are consistently placed toward the top of Transworld Snowboarding Magazine’s rankings, the resort also contains.
First opened back in 1967, Snowmass will celebrate its 50th anniversary this December with firework displays, parties and other festivities.
And, about one moth after the official anniversary date (Dec 17), with the season's fourth halfpipe and second slopestyle World Cup competitions which both are the penultimate chance for riders to earn points for an Olympic spot in each respective discipline.
By hosting the double World Cup from January 10 to 13, 2018, Snowmass will not only attract the world's best for one of the last form tests on their road to PyeongChang 2018 but – being a new addition to the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix's resort lineup – also become the 16th US resort to host a FIS Snowboard Word Cup.
VENUE
The resort isn't called Snowmass for nothing as it contains the longest vertical descent in the United States (1,343 metres) which asks for some great pre-season workout if you are up for a top to bottom run.
Besides the already named easy beginner runs and various terrain parks, Snowmass also contains some gladded terrais for advanced riders, several double black and even mogul runs.
A fleet of 21 lifts also ensures that huge queueing lines are not noticeable while the crowds aren't as big as in other Colorado resorts as Snowmass doesn't really get weekend trippers from Denver.
