This week the Austrian Ski Association announced their Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski squads for the 2020/21 World Cup season, with an impressive mix of veterans - including Olympic medallists, world champions and crystal globe winners - as well as up-and-comers ready to hit the slopes once we return to competition action next winter.

Foremost amongst the snowboard team is certainly Anna Gasser, as the 28-year-old who took big air gold at both the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and Sierra Nevada 2017 world championships looks to reassert her dominance after something of an off year in 2019/20.

On the men’s side it’s snowboard cross star Alessandro Haemmerle leading the way, after the 26-year-old wrapped up his second-straight crystal globe winning season in 2019/20 with a gutsy victory at the season-ender in Veysonnaz.

Perhaps strongest amongst all the Austrian snowboard squads is the alpine team, which boast the likes of four-time world champion Benny Karl, 2019/20 PGS crystal globe winner Andreas Prommegger and rising star Danielle Ulbing amongst its ranks.

Neue Saison - neue Kader! So geht‘s für die ÖSV-Boarder in den Wettkampfwinter 2020/21! 😉✌🏻🏂🏆🇦🇹 .. .. #snowboarding #fissnowboard #alpinesnowboard #raceboard #snowboardracing #wearecarving #fissnowboardworldcup #snowboardfreestyle #slopestyle #bigair #snowboardcross #sbx #sbxlife #snowboardcrossworldcup #austriapowerteam

Over on the Freestyle and Freeski side of things, the typically strong Austrian ski cross team will be looking for some redemption next season after a difficult 2019/20 campaign in which only Katrin Ofner finished in the top-10 on either the women’s or men’s sides.

However, with a fully healthy Andrea Limbacher (the Kreischberg 2015 world champion) also representing the women, and the men’s side boasting Adam Kappacher, Daniel Traxler and Sandro Seiberhofer - three skiers who should be entering the primes of the careers, a rebound season should be in order.

The Freeski team will be lead by big air specialist Lara Wolf and Lukas Muellauer, who finished eighth and on the 10th overall last season respectively, with up-and-comers like Hannes Rudiger looking to make breakthroughs next season.
