May 25, 2020·Snowboard Park & PipeWhat a difference a week makes...through the first half of the month we had a couple of posts here and there of riders returning to the snow for some spring sessioning, mostly in the Scandanvian nations where the lingering snowpack still reached down close to the car park for easy hiking, or, in the case of Sweden, where some resorts remained open.
This week, however, there's fresh content coming fast and furious from all sorts of spots in the northern hemisphere, including from Slovenia, where what appears to be the first post-lockdown competitions in the world went down in Kanin as they held an open-format big air national championships...
But as mentioned above, there was a tonne of good, fun, encouraging, stoke-inducing, exciting, ACTUAL SNOWBOARDING coming down the pipeline over the last week so let's just go straight speed-round on this stuff, beginning with Sweden's Sven Thorgren going ham on this swallowtail double-line in Riksgransen...
Absolutely not to be outdone, Marcus Kleveland hopped on a 95cm kids board and proceeded to drop an extremely grown-up dub 10 in Dombas (NOR)...
Actually maybe just watch the whole edit from the Dombas session, because it's hype from start to finish...
Anna Gasser got back on board at Austria's Kaunertaler Glacier and proceeded to celebrate by sending it to the damn moon...
Pat Burgener's never really not hyped, but he was EXTRA not-not-hyped to be back on snow in Crans Montana last week where, from what we understand, there was a huge congregation of Swiss shredders doing that shredding...
In case Pat doesn't have you convinced that the Swiss are having a REAL GOOD TIME in Crans, maybe Elias Allenspach can change your mind...
Meanwhile, over in Whistler, Jack McDougall and friends appear to have scraped together the last few cubic meters of snow left in the forest to construct...well, it's tough to say. Quarterpipe, maybe? Either way, applause for the effort...
Sticking with Mr. McDougall, we never get tired of seeing the action that goes down at this ridiculous lake ramp set-up...
While we're on the topic of Canada Snowboard young guns, Jack's teammate Liam Brearley dropped the third clip of his season edit series this past week, featuring some tricks from the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games where he won THREE medals...
Speaking of season edits, Slovakian star Klaudia Medlova released this beauty to the world a few days ago. The absolute style on everything here is just...*chefs kiss*.
They're even getting after it in Italy, as Alberto Maffei proves with a super sick front dub 9 in Madonna di Campiglio...
This was one of Katie Ormerod's favourite jump combos of the season, and we'd have to say that she ain't wrong...that dub wildcat is the definition of "stomped."
Of course, not everyone is chasing the last scraps of snow left to be shaped into a kicker. Eva Samkova, for instance, seems to be just fine switching to summer mode and getting her kicks with a little wake surfing back home in Czechia...
Samkova's SBX rival Michaela Moioli, meanwhile, looks about as zen as a monk to be keeping her speed demon instincts constrained to two-wheel activities in the sweet Italian sun...
On the topic of legendary SBX women, don't miss SBX Life's upcoming interview with the recently-retired Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France this Wednesday. One of the strongest riders in the world over the past decade-plus, Moenne Loccoz's insights should be exceptional...
(And while you're at it, check out last week's interview with Cam Bolton of Australia HERE)
Let's jump over to Russia now, where alpine team rider Lisa Salikova dropped by the World Cup venue in Bannoye for a little snowless springtime inspection and yoga session...
A huge number of people are still maintaining social distancing measures by staying home, for which we salute you. Of course, staying home is probably a lot easier when you've got a gym setup like Canadian alpine rider Megan Farrell...
While Scotty James' gym isn't quite as scenic, he seems to be enjoying himself nonetheless. Or maybe he's just losing it. Either way, as is always the case with Scotty, we are thankfully entertainined...
Remember - in life there is always something to look forward to. For instance, Matty Cox is looking forward to a trip to Australia's Thredbo resort in August, meaning that WE all get to look forward to more Matty Cox content. Win-win!
And, finally, to finish things off here, we offer a cautionary tale: no amount of likes, faves, or shares is worth the wrath of your significant other should you happen to bean them with a litre of water while trying to get that good content. Lucky for Jamie Nicholls this bomb just missed his wife, otherwise he'd be sleeping out in his backyard instead of just shredding in it...
Next up from us will be the latest #ClassicsLive competition going live on Wednesday on our YouTube, where we'll be throwing it back to the first career win for the inimitable Ester Ledecka (CZE). As well, we'll have a short recap of last week's FIS committee meetings ready for you in the coming days, as there was lots - LOTS - to discuss in those online sessions last week.
Have a good week, everybody, and stay sayin' safe out there...
