Vote for your favourite slopestyle competition in this week's #ClassicsLive poll
Jun 17, 2020·Snowboard Park & PipeWe've got intriguing battle shaping up in this week's #ClassicsLive slopestyle poll, with the unique and unconventional Spindleruv Mlyn (CZE) Snowjam World Cup from 2012/13 up against the big, brash Bokwang (KOR) 2015/16 competition (aka the comp that served as the test event for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games).
With pair of massive hips to kick things off, followed by a multifaceted jib section just begging for creativity, and ending with a big ol' cheese wedge that would double as a big air kicker in a non-World Cup competition later on in the evening, the Spindleruv competittion had the riders on hand in Czechia pumped from start to finish.
And what a field it was. Enni Rukajarvi (FIN) ruled the day on the women's side of things, but with the likes of Sina Candrian (SUI), Kiersti Buaas (NOR), Silje Norendal (NOR), Shelly Gotlieb (NZL) and Jenny Jones (GBR) all also hitting the finals, you know this one was big.
Or maybe you need to hear the men's field to be convinced, so how about this: the top five on that day in 2013 included Sage Kotsenburg (USA), Sebastien Toutant (CAN), Sven Thorgren (SWE), Staale Sandbech (NOR) and Torstein Horgmo (NOR), which we think we can all agree is about as heavy as heavy gets.
Then there was Korea. Of course, as a warm-up for the PyeongChang 2018 Games, the Bokwang competition certainly had no shortage of firepower itself, while boasting the type of long, varied, and super-challenging course befitting of a future Olympic venue.
The US would sweep the top of the podium, with Jamie Anderson doing a little foreshadowing for what she would have in store a couple years later at the Games with the women's win, and a then 16-year-old Brock Crouch taking his one-and-only World Cup win in a standout performance on the men's side.
With the likes of Karly Schorr (USA), Christy Prior (NZL) and Katie Ormerod (GBR) also showing strong on the women's side, and Seppe Smits (BEL), Ville Paumola (FIN), Chris Corning (USA), and a slew of others throwing down for the men, there were plenty of rippers to cheer for in Korea as well.
