The first FIS competitions of the 2022/23 went down this past week in Australia, with big air and slopestyle Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) events for both snowboarders and freeskiers taking to the slopes of Perisher Resort from Aug 1-5.

Each discipline saw two slopestyle and one big air event take place for both men and women, save for the first women’s snowboard slopestyle of the week which was unfortunately cancelled.

The snowboard events in particular saw some big names showing up to throw down, with the likes of Australia’s own Valentino Guseli and Matty Cox each earning multiple podiums, while Canada’s Truth Smith brought some international flavour with a runner-up result in the first slopestyle competition of the week.

On the women’s side there was a little more international success, as Mia Brookes of Great Britain won both the big air and slopestyle competitions for the women.

Over on the freeski side of things Cameron Waddell was the top dog of the week for the men with two victories and a second place finish in his three competitions. And while the women’s field was limited in all three Perisher ANC events, Mabel Ashburn was the standout of the week as she matched Waddell with two wins and a second place finish.
