The final countdown is on for the biggest snowsports event since the end of the World Cup season, as there are now just 10 days left until the start of competition at the 2023 FIS Park & Pipe Junior World Championships in Cardrona, New Zealand.

The world’s very best 14-18 year old freeski and snowboard athletes will soon be on hand in Cardrona and ready to battle it out for gold at one of the southern hemisphere’s premier freestyle resorts, with the added bonus of competing as part of the southern hemisphere’s largest winter sports event - the Winter Games NZ.

This season will mark the third time that Cardrona has hosted the FIS Junior World Championships, after hugely successful turns in 2010 and 2018.

While the “Pipe” portion of this year’s JWCs will unfortunately not be taking place due to a lack of early season snowfall leading to insufficient preparation time for Championships-worthy halfpipe, the slopestyle and big air venues in Cardrona are shaping up nicely, and will no doubt offer a suitable playground for these hotly anticipated competitions.

The action will begin on 27 August with freeski slopestyle qualifications, followed by snowboard slopestyle qualifications on 28 August, and then finals for both disciplines going back-to-back throughout the day on the 29th.

After that it’s on to big air, where freeski will again lead things off on 1 September, followed by snowboard on 2 September and finals for both again taking place on the same day, 3 September.

Both competitions have two weather days tacked on to the end of the schedule should any issues arise with the conditions in Cardrona.

With a huge collection of the world’s best up-and-coming freeski and snowboard athletes on hand, as well as some already established heavy hitters such as reigning World Champions like Mia Brookes (GBR), Taiga Hasegawa (JPN) and Chaeun Lee (KOR) - it goes without saying that the Cardrona 2023 FIS Park & Pipe Junior World Championships is the most highly-anticipated snowsport event to go down in the last several months.

With this in mind, both FIS and Winter Games NZ are set to stream finals for all competitions from start to finish via our websites, YouTube and, for the first time ever, on the FIS TikTok channel. We’ll have the full finals programme and links for those streams to share with you closer to finals days on 29 Aug and 3 Sept, New Zealand time.

Stay tuned for plenty more!
