After the disappointing announcement earlier this week that the Spindleruv Mlyn (CZE) slopestyle World Cup would be cancelled due to insufficient snowpack and sustained, unusually warm temperatures in the long-term forecast, FIS Snowboard is pleased to announce that we have found a replacement venue for what will be the second slopestyle World Cup of the 2023/24 season in Tignes (FRA).

The newly-scheduled Tignes slopestyle World Cup will run from 14-15 March, 2024, and is currently slated to see women’s qualifications going down on Thursday, 14 March, followed by men’s qualifications and finals for both women and men on the Friday, 15 March.

The snowboarders will be joining their freeskiing brethren there in Tignes as part of the already-scheduled Mountain Shaker week of freeski slopestyle and big air competition, making for a serious step-up in scheduling in Tignes after two seasons of hosting solely slopestyle competition.

Fortunately, Tignes is one of the the most fabled hosts in FIS World Cup history, having served as the venue for the very first FIS Freestyle World Cup competition back in 1980, and seen hundreds of World Cup competitions since then.

Tignes also saw a period as a FIS Snowboard World Cup venue, hosting alpine SB, snowboard cross and halfpipe competitions from the 1996/97 season through to 2001/02. It’s been over 23 years since the snowboard World Cup has hit Tignes, and while we wish it were under different circumstance, we’re more than excited to bring snowboard slopestyle competition to the French resort’s fabled slopes for the first time.

In a statement, Tignes’ General Manager of Development Frédéric Porte acknowledged the importance of the reschedule for the FIS Snowboard slopestyle World Cup, as well as Tignes ideal position to accommodate the change on such short notice.

“In a context leading us to constantly adapt to an evolving environment, Tignes and the FIS are pleased to announce the holding of a women's and men's snowboard slopestyle World Cup in Tignes on March 14-15 during the Mountain Shaker festival, where we will also be hosting freeski slopestyle and big air competitions,” said Porte, “This adjustment to the calendar allows both the smooth running of the FIS Snowboard World Cup as well as the pooling of resources already mobilized in Tignes for the ski events.”

The rescheduling to Tignes of the cancelled Spindleruv Mlyn competition would not have been possible without the close cooperation of the organisers in Tignes, the French Ski Federation and our broadcast partners at InFront Sports Media, for which we at FIS Snowboard are sincerely grateful.
