Matthias Mayer back in the white circus
Jun 05, 2023·Alpine SkiingAs you will no doubt remember, on the 29th December 2022 in Bormio, Matthias Mayer (AUT) surprisingly announced the end of his career to the Austrian television channel ORF.
While there were doubts about a possible comeback or about his future career ambitions, we are very pleased to hear that the Austrian star will be taking on a new role within the Austrian Ski Federation.
As a 'comeback', it is in the role of a coach that the three-time Olympic champion will bring his expertise to the Men's Speed Team. An expertise that will mean a lot, as he has won 3 gold medals at the Olympic Games, 11 World Cup victories and 45 podiums.
The 32-year-old will provide additional support to the staff, offering his help and advice to the team at various training camps and World Cup races.
His expertise will also be used for the next generation of skiers in the various European Cup groups, to help the new generation make the step up to the world cup more easily and more quickly.
This new collaboration is scheduled to begin in the autumn, before continuing through the various races.
