Over the past years, Sabine Schoeffmann has become the up-and-coming talent the Austrian Snowboard team is pinning its hopes on for the future.
Born July 28th, 1992 in Wolfsberg, the daughter of Ilse and Werner, a gymnastic and a skiing coach, strapped into a snowboard for the first time at the age of five and kept on riding in her school holidays on the Simonhoehe, right in the heart of Carinthia, ever since.
With success.
Following a total of 19 national junior medals, the St. Georgen resident became a member of the national raceboard team back in 2008 and quickly repaid the trust OESV had put into her.
In 2009, Schoeffmann, who is afraid of sharks, earned her first two gold and bronze medals at the junior world champs in Nagano, Japan, despite a broken left metacarpal bone, which is still only one of two big injuries the Pizza lover had to handle so far with the other one being a broken collarbone.
2009 also marks the start of her World Cup career as the two-time national champion competed in the Bad Gastein snowboard cross event.
Ever since, Schoeffmann has not only focused on the parallel events but also more and more adjusted to the physical and mental needs at the highest international contest series with the 2014-15 season being her breakthrough winter.
Right at the opener in Montafon, Austria the Carinthian rider claimed her career's first win and was able to confirm this good result with another podium finish in Asahikawa, Japan weeks later.
In addition, several other good results had placed her in a very good position in the race for the Crystal Globe which came to a dramatic end at the season's finals in Winterberg, Germany where she finally lost the battle for the parallel slalom World Cup title against Switzerland's Julie Zogg.
“Unfortunately, it didn't work out in the last race, but I'm very happy about my runner-up position in the final standings.”
Especially as she also finished the overall alpine world cup standings in fourth place only one year after she had narrowly missed a spot for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games.
With another good start to the 2015-16 winter and two podium results in Bad Gastein almost six years later to the date of her first World Cup start, 'Bine' underlined that she is able to live up to the expectations of being one of Austria's future represents at major events.
A fact which definitely comes along with her career's biggest goal stated on www.snowboardaustria.at: “After I won the junior worlds I also want to win the world championships!”
