Sabine Schoeffmann's injury suffered in a fall in last Sunday's parallel giant slalom race in Bansko, Bulgaria has turned out to be worse than expected.

The 25-year-old fractured her left fibula and also tore several ligaments when crashing into the b-netting of the ultimate PGS event prior to the Olympics at full speed.

After not making the team cut for Sochi 2014, the Carinthian racer therefore also misses PyeongChang 2018.

Instead of travelling to her first Olympic Winter Games Schoeffmann, currently ranked Number one in the PSL Wold Cup standings and Number 5 in the Alpine Snowboard Overall World Cup rankings, will now undergo surgery this Thursday.

“It's a real bummer for Sabine,” said Christian Galler, Head of Snowboard Team Austria. “Placing second in Rogla recently, she had underlined that she would have been a vital podium threat in PyeongChang.”

Schoeffmann will be replaced by Daniela Ulbing, no less than the 2017 PSL World Champion.
