Bansko 2023 FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships - Results

The FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships wrapped up in epic fashion this past Sunday in Bansko after three perfect bluebird days of competition and a full set of medals awarded to the world’s best junior racers in three events - parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom and parallel team.

After hosting the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup event for the first time since 2018 earlier in the season, Bansko hosted another big event with the future generations of snowboard alpine racers competing at the snowboard alpine portion of the 2023 FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships.

With a top-notch course, perfect weather and snow conditions and over 80 participants on hand in Bulgaria’s premier ski resort, the event in Bansko was without a doubt a highly successful one.

Parallel Giant Slalom

Straight off winning the PGS competition at the Bakuriani 2023 World Championships just a couple of weeks ago, Miki Tsubaki was on a mission once again, unquestionably dominating the parallel giant slalom event from qualifications to the big final to snag her career’s third Junior World Championships gold medal and her seventh in total, including four silver medals from Krasnoyarsk. Lachtal and Rogla.

In the big final Tsubaki edged out Iris Pflum (USA), who finished the competition in respective second place, while Salome Jansing (GER) rounded out the women’s podium with a bronze medal after winning the small final matchup against Fluorine Neva Beatschi (SUI).

Moving to the men’s side of the competition it was Tervel Zamfirov (BUL), who stepped things up from his bronze medal performance last year in Chiesa in Valmalenco, leading the 1-2 punch for the Bulgarian team and winning the gold after winning the big final against his fellow teammate Alexander Krashniak.

Third place and bronze medal went to Max Kuehnhauser (GER), who upset the Bulgarian sweep of the podium by winning his small final matchup against. Petar Gergyovski.

Parallel Slalom

In the Fridays PSL event it was 15-year-old Xenia von Siebenthal (SUI), who raced to the biggest victory of her career with a golden medal performance while showcasing superb racing skills throughout the day. After finishing her rookie year of Europa Cup tour in 20th place overall, the young Swiss rider upset some more experienced riders such as Pia Schoeffmann (AUT) or the 2023 World Champions Tsubaki Miki (JPN), before edging out PGS’s runner-up Iris Pflum (USA) to clinch the Junior World Championships PSL gold.

Consequently, Pflum finished the day with silver, for her second medal in two days of action in Bansko.

Third place and bronze medal went to Zuzana Maderova (CZE), who came away victorious in the small final matchup against Pia Schoeffmann.

In the men’s event it was Petar Gergyovski, who redeemed himself after landing just outside of podium in fourth place the previous day, and went for gold after edging out his teammate Alexander Krashniak for another 1-2 punch for the Bulgarian team.

With another silver Krashniak scored his second medal of the championships, while Werner Pietsch (AUT) claimed the bronze, after wining the small final against Kristian Georgia (BUL).

Parallel Team

The final day of the FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships saw the mixed team event closing out a successful three days of racing in Bansko.

In the end it was the German team of Max Kuehnhauser and Salome Jansing, who finished on top ahead of Nicola Meisser and Fluorine Neva Baetschi (SUI), while Krystof Minaret and Zuzana Maderova (CZE) rounded out the podium in third place.
