FIS Cross World Championships to be held in Idre Fjäll (SWE)
Jan 17, 2021·Ski CrossSome positive news reached the Audi FIS Ski Cross and FIS Snowboard Cross family on Friday evening, when the Swedish Ski Federation, together with FIS, FIS media and broadcast partner Infront, and all stakeholders involved came to an agreement to host the FIS Cross World Championships in Idre Fjäll on February 11 – 13, 2021.
Due to the development of the pandemic and the implemented measures by the Chinese health authorities and government, the originally scheduled FIS Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships in Zhangjiakou had to be cancelled earlier this season.
The organizing committee in Idre Fjäll and the Swedish Ski Federation are putting in an enormous amount of effort to host this major event on this short notice, however all parties involved feel supremely confident that this experienced World Cup organizer will be able to step up to hold a successful World Championships.
The resort is not new to the Cross community, as Idre Fjäll has been a regular stop on the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup tour since the 2015/16 season.
“We are extremely happy and very thankful to the Swedish Ski Federation and the entire team of Idre Fjäll for agreeing to host this major event in an already quite challenging season. It will be a great show, for sure, and we can’t wait for Snowboard Cross to be introduced to an already classic course in IdreFjäll,” Uwe Beier, FIS Cross Race Director states.
The preliminary schedule foresees the individual Snowboard Cross competition on February 11, Snowboard Cross team competition on February 12 and the Ski Cross competition on February 13.
We will publish further updates as soon as they are finalized.
Needless to say, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the World Championship medal battles in February on what is one of the world’s most exciting Cross venues.
