Strong perfromance by US Team in the first qualification day in Mammoth

Halfpipe World Cup qualifications at Mammoth Mountain.

First competition day went into the books in the primer California's resort Mammoth Mountain with US team showing strong performance on home soil in both halfpipe and ladies' slopestyle qualifications.

Halfpipe qualifications

Kicking things off early in the morning with ladies' halfpipe qualifiers it was Marie Martionod (FRA) and Maddie Bowman (USA) who topped their respective heats.

Martinod stomped her signature run with a huge straight air tail grab followed by a back-to-back 540 safety, left and right flair safety and a left 900 safety to finish off her run with 94.00 points.

Bowman run's included straight air safety, left 900, right 540, left 540 tail grab, right 720 mute and switch 540 as he earned the second highest score of the day with 86.66.

Ayana Onozuka (JPN), Annalisa Drew (USA) and Rosalind Groenewoud (CAN) qualified into the Friday's finals from heat 1 while Brita Sigourney (USA), Cassie Sharp (CAN) and Carly Margulies (USA) made the cut from heat 2.

On the men's it was all about the US athletes as they took six out of ten final spots with Torrin Yater-Wallace and Tyler Seaton leading the way.

Yater-Wallace started his run with a right double cork 1260 mute, just to follow up with left 1080 tail on another wall, switch right 720 mute, left 900 tail and right 900 tail on his last hit for a total score of 92.33 points.

Gus Kenworthy (USA), David Wise (USA), Kevin Rolland (FRA) and Hunter Hess (USA) also made it through the qualification round from heat 1.

In heat 2 Tyler Seaton managed to squeezed in as much as seven hits in his 90.00 points run including switch right 900 mute, switch left 720 safety, right 900 tail, left 900 tail, left alley oop flat 540 safety, right alley oop 900 tail and a huge left alley opp 900 opposite tail.

Aaron Blunck (USA), Ben Valentin (FRA), Joel Gisler (SUI) and Simon d'Artois (CAN) took the remaining top 5 spots and we'll also see them in the Friday's finals.

**Ladies' slopestyle qualifications

**The next to follow up were the ladies who took over the slopestyle course in the afternoon.

With more than 30 riders checking in at the starting gate, it was Maggie Voisin (USA) and Emma Dahlstrom (SWE) to finish the day on top of the field.

Voisin took the first place in heat 1 with 90.33 points for a run that included 270 in on the first rail, 270 out off the pyramid, switch-to-switch-to-switch 180 safety on the last jibb features and right 540 mute, switch left 540 high safety and left 900 tail on the jumps.

Dahlstrom topped heat 2 as she stomped 270 in, switch in front swap to switch on the pyramid, switch in 270 out off the canon, followed up by switch 180 off the whale tail, left cork 720, right 540 safety and switch left 720 on the jumps for a high score of 91.66.

Johanne Killi (NOR), Darian Stevens (USA) and Devin Logan (USA) also made it into the finals from heat 1, while Mathilde Gremaud (SUI), Tylor Lundquist (USA) and Colline Ballet-Baz (FRA) completed the top 8 list from heat 2.

Men's qualifications are scheduled for Thursday with over 80 riders set to drop in.
