Anthony and Kingsbury lead the way in moguls qualifications

The first competition day for the freestyle family at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games wrapped up in style on Thursday evening at the Zhangjiakou Genting Snow Park, where Australia's Jakara Anthony and Canada's Mikael Kingsbury topped the rankings in first round of moguls qualifications.

Anthony led the way in the women's competition ahead of second Perrine Laffont of France and third Jaelin Kauf of USA.

“It was just so exciting to finally get to compete on the Olympic course," said Anthony after laying down her first run at Beijing 2022, "There has been a four-year build-up to this, so to finally get the chance to ski at the Olympic stadium was a phenomenal feeling."

Over on the men's side it was Mikael Kingsbury of Canada, who came with the highest score of the day. Walter Wallberg of Sweden and Benjamin Cavet of France followed up in second and third place, respectively.

“The goal is not to win today," said Kingsbury, "It’s great that I’m leading right now, but today is just to take in as much information and make sure I go through to the next round. I’m looking forward to a good day of rest and sitting down with my mental trainer and coaches to make the best plan for Saturday.”

Top-10 women and made made their way throught directly into finals, while rest of the remaining athletes will compete in second qualification round taking place right ahead of both men's and women's finals scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday.
