A hugely successful weekend of the best freestyle skiing action wrapped up on Saturday in Tremblant, where the second of back-to-back competitions closed out a couple of beautiful days of skiing bumps and jumps in the heartland of Canadian mogul skiing. There Mikael Kingsbury reached for his second victory in two days over in men’s competition, while Perrine Laffont (FRA) step things up a notch and went all-out for top spot on the women’s side.

With another superb performance this weekend it’s safe to say that Perrine Laffont is just not done yet when it comes to defending her World Cup title from last year. With a second place on Friday, the reining World Champion stepped things up a notch and took a dominant win on Saturday, coming on top of the field in each of the competition’s phases at Mont Tremblant.

In the big final Laffont confidently cruised down to the finish line, stoping her air tricks with ease to grab a score of 82.55 points and an indisputable spot on top of the podium. It was Laffont’s second victory of the season, and her first in moguls.

Second place on the day went to Jakara Anthony (AUS), who also improved on her Friday’s result and received 79.02 points, while Anri Kawamura (JPN) rounded out the women’s podium in third place with 78.78 points in the super final.

Heading into Deer Valley with two competitions remaining before the Olympic Winter Games in China, things are just super thing over in the moguls World Cup standing. After four years of domination on tour by Perrine Laffont, the battle for the moguls globe is so far wide open between  three athletes. After five moguls events so far in the 2021/22 season Kawamura leads the way with 369 points, with Anthony following not far behind in second with 365 points and Laffont now joining the battle in third place with 350 points.

Switching over to men’s competition it was the “King of Moguls” Mikael Kingsbury, who reached for his second victory of the weekend on home soil. Qualifying into the super final behind Ikuma Horishima (JPN) in second place, Kingsbury made a statement with his third and final run, for which he received 85.59 points. With Horishima failing to make a flawless run himself, Kingsbury snagged the top spot and extended his streak on the venue in Tremblant to four consecutive wins.

Similarly to Friday’s competition, also on Saturday Walter Wallberg (SWE) finished the day in second place with 82.66 points for his big final run.

Completing the men’s podium in third place once again was Ikuma Horishima, who received 78.78 points in the best-of-6 super final.

With the win on Saturday Kingsbury jumped on top of the moguls standing for the first time this season and he is leading the way with 392 points. Horishima dropped down to second place with 380 points, while Walter Wallberg sits further behind in third place with 259 points.

The FIS Freestyle Ski Moguls World Cup now travels across the boarded to the USA, with next event coming up at the iconic venue at Deer Valley next Thursday and Friday, January 13-14.
