After an exciting start into 2021/22 freestyle season last week in Ruka, the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup tour now has moved on to Idre Fjäll (SWE) for a pair of moguls and dual moguls competitions scheduled to go down this Saturday and Sunday, December 11-12.

For the third straight season the moguls World Cup is returning to Sweden, which has long tradition of hosting freestyle events that dates back to 1984. In addition to the long-established stop of the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup, Idre is kicking off its World Cup competition season with another big event already this weekend - a highly entertaining freestyle showdown of skiing it through the bumps and sending it off the jumps.

The venue in Idre has been up and running since the middle of October and again this year it served as a training ground for many national teams getting ready for the upcoming Olympic campaign. Now the venue is ready for another big test this weekend with plenty of World Cup points up for grabs and some top-tier athletes looking to wrap up the first portion of the season on a high.

Japan’s Kawamura and Horishima lead the way in first round of qualifications

Friday saw the first round of qualifications to go down on Idre’s moguls course, with women competing for top-16 spots in Sunday’s Dual Moguls events, while men were trying to make the cut into Saturday’s Moguls competition.

In the women’s event Anri Kawamura (JPN) finished ahead of Perrine Laffont (FRA) and Jakara Anthony (AUS), while over in the men’s part of Friday’s competition it was Ikuma Horishima (JPN), who led the field ahead of Benjamin Cavet (FRA) and Mikael Kingsbury (CAN).

Besides those afore-mentioned athletes, when talking about favourites on the women’s side also keep an eye on last week winner from Ruka Olivia Giaccio as well as her teammates from the US team. Team Japan is also putting high hopes in the likes of their other riders such as Rino Yanagimoto or Hinako Tomitako with Anastasiia Smirnova (RUS), Britney Cox (AUS), Sofiane Gagnon (CAN) and Dufour-Lapointe sisters Justine and Chloe also very likely in the mix to battle for a spot on the podium this upcoming weekend.

On the men’s side on the other hand watch out for the Swedish Moguls Team as they put as many as five riders into Saturday’s moguls finals and will be looking to make some noise in front of the home crowd. Obviously also let’s not forget about the likes of the last season’s World Cup champion Matt Graham (AUS) as well as his teammate Brodie Summers, Bradley Wilson (USA) and Pavel Kolmakov (KAZ,) just to name a few of those who showcased some solid skiing in Friday’s qualifiers.

Saturday will see an early start of the day with women’s qualifications set for 10:20 CET. Finals are scheduled to take place at 13:00.

Sunday will see men’s dual moguls qualifications go down in the morning at 10:05 CET with both women’s and men’s dual moguls finals scheduled for 13:00.
