After an exciting start into 2021/22 freestyle season last week in Ruka, the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup tour now has moved on to Idre Fjäll (SWE) for a pair of moguls and dual moguls competitions scheduled to go down this Saturday and Sunday, December 10-11.

For the fourth straight season the moguls World Cup is returning to Sweden, which has a long tradition of hosting freestyle events that dates back to 1984. In addition to the long-established stop of the FIS Ski Cross World Cup, Idre is kicking off its World Cup competition season with another big event already this weekend - a highly entertaining freestyle showdown of skiing it through the bumps and sending it off the jumps.

The venue in Idre has been up and running since the middle of October and again this year it served as a training ground for many national teams getting ready for the upcoming competition season. Now the venue is ready for another big test this weekend with plenty of World Cup points up for grabs, so get your popcorn ready and expect some serious fireworks.

Jakara Anthony and Mikael Kingsbury top first round of qualifications

Friday saw the first round of qualifications to go down on Idre’s moguls course, with both women and men competing for top-16 spots for Saturday’s Moguls events.

In the women’s event Jakara Anthony (AUS) finished ahead of Jaelin Kauf (USA) and Olivia Giaccio (USA), while over in the men’s part of Friday’s competition it was Mikael Kingsbury (CAN), who led the pack ahead of Ikuma Horishima (JPN) and Matt Graham (AUS).

Besides those afore-mentioned athletes, when talking about favourites on the women’s side also keep an eye on last week runner-up from Ruka Perrine Laffont (USA) as well as Anri Kawamura (JPN). Elizabeth Lamley (USA), Rino Yanagimoto (JPN), Carroll Avital (AUT) and Hannah Soar (USA) are also very likely to be in the mix and battle for a spot on the podium this upcoming weekend.

On the men’s side on the other hand watch out for the local fans favourite and the 2022 Olympic champion Walter Wallberg, who is competing in first first event of the season following his injury.

Obviously also let’s not forget about the likes of Benjamin Cavet (FRA) and always strong the US team with Cole McDonald, Nick Page and Dylan Walczyk in squad, as they’re all expected to showcase some solid skiing on Saturday.

Saturday moguls finals are set for 13:15 CET, while Sunday will see dual moguls preliminary rounds go down in the morning at 09:00 CET with both women’s and men’s dual moguls finals scheduled for 11:30.
