Following two weeks of the finest FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup action up north in Finland and Sweden, the moguls tour has now moved to France, where another pair of moguls and dual moguls competitions is scheduled to go down this weekend on Friday and Saturday, December 16-17 in Alpe d’Huez.

Home to the legendary stage in the Tour de France, where cyclists set off to take on 1000m of elevation and a gruelling ride up the iconic 21 harpoon bends, Alpe d’Huez is also well-known for its sun facing and perfectly groomed slopes. Located on a plateau at 1860 meters above the sea level the resort boast over 250 km of runs that interconnect nearby villages with over 2200 meters of elevation.

And with a long history in ski cross, Alpe d’Huez has now reconnected with freestyle skiing, taking a new approach and developing mogul skiing in the region. Starting two season ago the resort provided the course that served as a training ground for the French team during the winter season and last year Alpe d’Huez took it to another level with its first moguls World Cup event. And this year once again we’re back on the “Signal” ski run slope and since the course is one of the steepest on the entire tour with some really deep bumps, we’re really excited to see what’s to come in the next two days of World Cup action.

Anthony and Page lead the way in snowy qualifiers

While known for its sunny slopes, Alpe d’Huez welcomed the tour this year with rather capricious weather, some flat light and quite a lot of new snow, especially during Thursday’s qualifications. In those challenging conditions it was Jakara Anthony (AUS) and Nick Page (USA), who managed to put down the cleanest runs, leading top-16 women and men into Friday’s finals for the single moguls competitions.

Coming behind in second in the women’s competition was Elizabeth Lemley (USA), who is coming fresh off here career’s first World Cup win in Idre, with the local fans’ favourite Perrine Laffont (FRA) finishing the qualification round in third place.

Over on the men’s side of the event Matt Graham (AUS) came just behind Page in second place as he will be hoping to snag his second top-3 finish in 2022/23 this weekend in France. The current leader in all three World Cup standings Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) closed out the day with third best score in men’s qualifications.

With two days of competition in Alpe d’Huez on Friday and Saturday, and finally some sunny skies  in the forecast, the third and final weekend of FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup action of 2022 shapes up to be a thrilling one. Get ready for some fast skiing, big tricks and some proper fireworks as we’re about to finish off the freestyle year on a high note.

Friday’s single moguls event is slated to get underway at 12:00 CET. The dual moguls competition is scheduled for Saturday, with preliminary rounds starting at 10:30 and finals following up at 13:00.
