Nick and Fontaine on top at International Aerials Invitational in Park City
Aug 30, 2022·FreestyleFor the second straight weekend the world’s best aerial skiing action was on display as the inaugural Utah Olympic Park International Aerials Invitational went down on Saturday, August 27.
With an enthusiastic crowd on site, clear skies, action-packed competition programme and over 35 athletes representing six different nations, all ingredients were in place for another highlight event of the summer water ramp series at the iconic training facility in Park City.
Starting with women’s competition it was the home crowd’s favourite Megan Nick (USA), who dominated the event on Saturday, leading the way from start to finish and putting down an outstanding Lay-Full-Full on her last attempt of the night to claim the victory with a final score of 104.72 points.
For the second straight weekend Laura Peel finished in a runner-up spot after performing the most technical trick in women’s competition - Lay double Full-Full. However, she couldn’t quite execute her trick as flawlessly as Nick and with a score of 103.54 points, Peel had to settle for second place.
Winter Vinecki (USA), who also performed exceptionally well on Saturday, rounded-out the podium in third place with 100.29 points for Lay-Full-Full.
Over on the men’s side of things, it was 18-year-old Miha Fontain (CAN), who put down a clutch double Full-Full double Full, once we were down to final six athletes, and with a high-score of 127.50 he snagged a huge victory to wrap an explosive night in Utah.
After coming in third place at the home event in Mettmenstetten, Noe Roth (SUI) stepped things up a notch on Saturday and finished the men’s competition in second place with 123.93 points for his Full double Full double Full.
The winner from Swiss event Dmytro Kotovskyi (UKR) completed the men’s podium in third place with 122.72 points for his trademark Full triple Full-Full.
