Youth Cup: 8 different nations on the podium

The long Nordic Combined weekend in Oberwiesenthal (GER) started yesterday with the youngsters of the FIS Youth Cup on the HS65.

After the Official Training and Provisional Competition Round (PCR), both girls and boys completed their first competitions. One jump was followed by a cross-country run with start and finish in the outrun of the Fichtelbergschanze. In the girls category YC1 (2009-2011), Slovenian Masa Likozar Brankovic won after the 3km race, ahead of Anna Brandner (AUT) and Julie Osmerova (CZE). In the girl’s YC2 category (2006-2008), the victory went to the fast-paced Swiss Giulia Belz, who started 9th after the jumping part, 1.20 min behind. Mara-Jolie Schlossarek (GER) was able to catch up one place in the cross-country run over 4km and secured second place, ahead of Giada Deluga (ITA).

Among the YC1 boys born between 2009 and 2011, the win also went to Slovenia. Timon Brglez, who was in second place after jumping, confidently secured the victory after a 4 km run ahead of the Germans Fritz Ungethüm and Linus Niemeyer. The winner of the YC2 boy’s category came surprisingly from Ukraine with Oleksandr Shovkoplias. After his jump, the 16-year-old placed 20th, almost two minutes behind the leaders. With a strong performance, he was able to cross the finish line first in the bottom of the Fichtelbergschanze. Second place went to Kacper Jarzabek (POL) ahead of Phil Recknagel (GER).

With Austria, Czechia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine a total of 8 nations reached the podium.
