FIS Freestyle Ski & Freeski 2019/20 World Cup calendars confirmed

Following the FIS Calendar Conference staged last week in Cavtat-Dubrovnik (CRO), the calendars for the upcoming 2019/20 FIS Freestyle Ski & Freeski World Cup season have been confirmed. And with no major events such as the Olympic Games or the FIS World Ski Championships coming up next season, the 2019/20 World Cup tour will be back to its fullest programme, with 53 events scheduled to go down from August 24, 2019 to March 21, 2020 at 37 different locations spread across four continents.

Ski Cross

The 2019/20 Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup season will see 16 events set to take place at 10 venues. Traditionally the ski cross season will kick off in the first week of December with the Audi Cross Alps Tour taking it to the slopes of Val Thorens (FRA), Montafon (AUT), Arosa (SUI) and Innichen (ITA).

In January the tour will visit Nakiska (CAN), Idre Fjaell (SWE) and Megeve (FRA), while in February the world’s best athletes will race in Feldberg (GER), Sunny Valley (RUS) and Secret Garden (CHN) - with an opportunity to test the future Olympic course for the very first time. Finally for the second straight season, both snowboard and ski cross seasons’ finals are scheduled to go down during the second weekend of March in Veysonnaz (SUI).

Moguls & Aerials

The upcoming moguls & aerials World Cup season will consist of 22 events - 13 for moguls and 9 for aerials. Apart from the classic venues such as Ruka, Deer Valley, or Moscow, four new locations will host the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup competitions for the first time and include St. Petersburg (RUS), Tbilisi (GEO), Idre Fjaell (SWE) as well as the host of the 2019 Winter Universiade - Krasnoyarsk (RUS).

The moguls World Cup tour will stage nine single moguls as well as four dual moguls competition in Ruka (FIN), Thaiwoo (CHN), Tremblant (CAN), Deer Valley (USA), Tazawako (JPN), Shymbulak (KAZ), and two new venues in Krasnoyarsk (RUS) and Idre Fjaell (SWE), with the latter set to host the season’s grand finale.

The biggest development in terms of the number of events will take place on the aerials side of things, with nearly twice as many events scheduled for 2019/20 in respect to the previous year. The season will kick off in Chanchun (CHN) with back-to-back competitions, including the season’s only aerials mixed team event. Then the tour will travel to St. Petersburg (RUS), Moscow (RUS), Deer Valley (USA) and Tbilisi (GEO) for the first FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup competition in Georgia. Last two stops of the season will take place in Shymbulak (KAZ) and Krasnoyarsk (RUS).

Freeski

The 2019/20 FIS Freeski World Cup season will see athletes compete in four halfpipe, six slopestyle and five big air competitions, with the first event scheduled to go down already in the final week of August in New Zealand, and the final competition of the season taking place almost eight months later in Switzerland.

The halfpipe tour will bring the athletes to Cardrona (NZL), Copper Mountain (USA), Secret Garden (CHN) and Calgary (CAN), while the slopestyle skiers will compete at Stubai (AUT), Font Romeu (FRA), Seiseralm (ITA), Mammoth Mountain (USA), Calgary (CAN) and Silvaplana (SUI).

The FIS Freeski big air World Cup tour will see the biggest changes to its programme in 2019/20, with four new venues in the mix next season. The campaign will kick off early in November in Modena. The second stop will take place in Beijing, where the traditional FIS Snowboard city big air event will also include freeski competition for the first time. Then the action will move to USA with the venue yet to be confirmed, Dusseldorf (GER) and finally to Destne (CZE).
