The Freestyle Rundown - May 13, 2020
May 13, 2020·Ski CrossWhile we are a little late getting this baby together today, but we are indeed back with another installment of your weekly Wednesday round-up of news and good content from the past seven-ish days here in the Rundown.
First things first, today we went live with the latest in our #ClassicsLive series, where we're opening up the video vaults, looking back to some epic competitions in FIS Freestyle history and allowing you the fans to vote for which one you would like to see in it's entirity on our YouTube page.
This week's vote pits the Tignes 2016 haflpipe World Cup finals against the La Plagne 2011 competition, and you can head HERE to learn more and cast your vote now.
In other news-y stuff this week, a whole stack of team announcements came through over the past few days, with the USA anouncing their nominations for their 2020/21 freeski squad and for their freestyle team, the Canadians announcing their freestyle team, Austria their ski cross and freeski teams, and the whole freestyle/freeski squad from top to bottom announced by the French.
Speaking of the US team, they took the time yesterday to acknowledge frontline healthcare workers on International Nurses Day, in a nice gesture towards some of the most important people on earth as we make our way through the continuing coronavirus situation...
Speaking of nice gestures, shout out to Henrik Harlaut for giving us all a little moment of bliss with this perfect, steezy, slushy alley-oop 5. Henrik could post a video brushing his teeth at this point and we'd all just like "thank you, Dollo," but this is better. Beauty.
What else is good this week...oh, how about Lukas Muellauer guinnea-pigging the insane motobooter at the Audi Nines last year? The reaction from the gang at the top of the drop-in says it all...
Meanwhile, Muellauer's Austrian amigo Marco Ladner dropped a nice little season-edit over the weekend. We also can't wait to be back on skis, Marco, but clips like this are helping us all get through it...🙌
After being held up in the confusion of the early ending to the season, the slopestyle globes finally reached the hands of the Swiss team, with Andri Ragettli receiving his over the weekend and Sarah Hoefflin set to get hers sometime next week. Andri's globe is the fourth of his career - more than any other freeskier in World Cup history - and he pulled his whole sizeable stack of World Cup hardware off the trophy shelf for a photo op...
Alright, switching gears to ski cross, where Canada's Brittany Phelan took some time off from rehabbing her knee to post this sweet training clip from earlier in the season. There aren't many people on earth who are gonna outrun men's SX crystal globe winner Kevin Drury when he's got a full head of steam, but Britt gives it a good go here...
Speaking of rehab, Andrea Limbacher has an...interesting...weight lifting set-up back home in Saint Wolfgang as she too works to get back in shape following a knee injury. This is def one way of putting your ski gear to good use while in lockdown...
You know the old saying "If life hands you lemons, make lemonade"? Well it appears that the Finnish version of that is, "If life hands you a garbage dump, make a terrain park!"
Some super fun stuff here, as the prodigy Henry Sildaru and the legend Candide Thovex chase each other around in Balme...
Alright, now, first up in the "Wait, what just happened?" department is this clip of renowned Internet-breaker Fabian Boesch stomping a backflip...on a slackline.
Next up is Kazakh moguls star Yulia Galysheva and a friend defying the laws of physics in a way that we still can't quite wrap our heads around...
And finally we've got Sebastian Schjerve putting together this hypercombo at his backyard dryslope high-performance jib training facility...
Finally, a little inspiration and a little warning to send you into the back half of the week, with 2019/20 aerials crystal globe winner Laura Peel bringing the inspo with this highlights package from last season...
And finally a clip that serves as a warning to keep up your social distancing, lest you get a little too close to your buddy and end up in what could be an extremely uncomfortable situation for everyone involved...😬
Ok! Thanks for reading, stay safe, enjoy the rest of the week, and GO VOTE for your favourite Classics Live competition now!
