Gregor Schlierenzauer is back in the World Cup
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingGregor Schlierenzauer will make his comeback in the Ski Jumping World Cup this weekend in Wisla (POL).
The 27-year-old was named to the World Cup team of the Austrian Ski Association for the first time in over a year.
Gregor Schlierenzauer had his last competition in the World Cup on January 3rd, 2016 in Innsbruck. After that he ended the season early due to struggles with his shape and a lack of motivation. In spring the Tyrolean then sustained an ACL tear when he was alpine skiing in Canada, which forced him to take a long break.
"I'm happy that I can return to competition now. There are always many spectators at the World Cups in Poland. After the win of Kamil Stoch at the 4-Hills-Tournament I'm sure that we can expect great events with an amazing atmosphere. The training went really well for me in the past weeks. Now it's time to prove myself in a competition again. I want to show my training performances in the competitions there and then I'll see what results I can achieve", said Schlierenzauer.
Stefan Kraft and Michael Hayboeck will also be competing in Wisla, after both had suffered from a stomach flue during the 4-Hills-Tournament. Manuel Fettner, Andreas Kofler, Markus Schiffner and Daniel Huber will also be on the team of head coach Heinz Kuttin. Huber has earned the seventh quota spot in the World Cup for Austria with strong results in the Continental Cup recently.
