COC-M: Michael Hayboeck the best again
Oct 09, 2022·Ski JumpingAfter his win in the first competition of the Continental Cup in Lake Placid on the normal hill, Michael Hayboeck of Austria was also the best in the first competition on the large hill there.
The 31-year-old laid the foundation for his fourth win this summer with the longest jump of the day of 131.5 m in the first round, Michael Hayboeck then defended his leading position with 123.5 m in the final and 293.8 points.
"My jumping feels good, otherwise I would not be able to win, the other guys are also in good shape. I'm really happy that I can jump so far every time. I like being here, Lake Placid is a cool place to be. The hills have character, they are not like all the new ones. I'm happy to be here and hopefully, I will come back in winter", said today's winner.
Aleksander Zniszczol of Poland, who was third on the day before, was able to further improve this strong result and finished second this time with 130 m and 120.5 m and a score of 281.0 points.
Norway's Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal has been showing consistently strong performance over the past weeks and claimed the third place for the third time this summer with 127 m and 123 m and 273.6 points.
Sundal's teammate Benjamin Oestvold had the best performance of the second round with 125.5 m, he was able to move up from eighth to fourth overall. Behind Zak Mogel of Slovenia (5th) and Poland's Maciej Kot (6th), Anders Haare was seventh and yet another Norwegian jumper among the best today.
Jan Habdas came in eighth, and so Poland was also represented by three athletes in the Top 10. The ninth place went to Matija Vidic of Slovenia, folllowed by Danil Vassilyev of Kazakhstan (10th), both achieved their best results in the COC so far.
With today's result, Michael Hayboeck secured the overall title of the Continental Cup 2022 already before the final competition. He now leads with 560 points, followed by Sondre Ringen (414 points) and Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal (374 points).
The final competition in Lake Placid will start on Sunda at 6:30 pm LOC (Monday, 0:30 am CET).
