Doublet for Dawid Kubacki in Wisla
Nov 06, 2022·Ski JumpingDawid Kubacki celebrated his second victory at the ski jumping World Cup opener. On Sunday Kubacki prevailed on the HS 134-meter hill in Wisla in front of the Slovenian Anze Lanisek and the Norwegian Marius Lindvik.
With his two victories at the start of the World Cup on plastic mats, the 32-year-old Pole not only catapulted himself to the top of the overall World Cup, but also straight into the position of the top favorite for the overall World Cup victory of the winter that began. Kubacki won everything there was to win in Wisla: both qualifications and both competitions, a demonstration of power by the Seefeld World Champion (normal hill) and Tournament winner 2020.
"My coach confirmed that my jumps in the qualification round and in the second round were very good. I think I can still improve a bit, but then we'll talk about the details. I'll work on those things over the next few weeks, when we prepare for the next part of the season. At the moment I'm satisfied with today", explained the celebrated winner of the weekend.
The Slovenian Anze Lanisek managed to jump into second place a good 8 points behind the Pole: “I think I was a bit unlucky with the conditions yesterday and was a bit frustrated. Today I definitely wanted to show more and fortunately I managed to do that. Today I was able to show that I'm in good shape, I hope I can continue at this level," explained Lanisek.
Third place in the daily classification went to Olympic champion Marius Lindvik from Norway.
"The jumping was pretty good today. Yesterday I fell and lost a lot of points. I worked on my landing, it was a bit deep in the first round, but she was good in the second round. Now we will train and tackle the final details before Ruka," said Lindvik, who, like all other athletes, now has an unusual
2.5-week break for ski jumpers before the World Cup continues in Ruka (FIN).
The best Japanese was Naoki Nakamura in 11th place, his teammate Ryoyu Kobayashi was disqualified after the competition for not wearing a suit that conformed to the rules. The same happened to three-time Olympic champion Kamil Stoch from Poland. Stoch was already disqualified during the qualification.
The weekend was painful for the German men. After the disappointing result on Saturday, head coach Stefan Horngacher had to be satisfied with Pius Paschke's 15th place as the best result on Sunday.
“In terms of results, the weekend didn't go well for us. But the positive thing is that the team played together. The good jumps from our top guys were simply missing. We will make good use of the next two weeks for our training”, Horngacher concluded after the weekend.
The World Cup up continues on the weekend of November 26th and 27th in Ruka (FIN).
In the overall World Cup, Dawid Kubacki leads after two competitions with 200 out of a possible 200 points, followed by Halvor Egner Granerud (NOR) with 130 points.
