Stefan Baumeister has been named Rider of the Year yesterday during the traditional season's opening press conference of Snowboard Germany.

The 24-year-old from Bad Aibling was honoured for his last winter's breakthrough season where he not only celebrated his career's first podium finish on the World Cup tour (Rank 3 in Bansko, Bulgaria) but also won the season's finals in Winterberg, Germany.

In addition, he also snatched a third rank finish in the team event at his home soil event together with Carolin Langenhorst.

Snowboard Germany President Prof. Hanns Michael Hoelz lauded: “Stefan took a big step forward from talent to medal hopeful last season. We hope that he will be able to keep the momentum in the next season, and that he will be able to fulfil one or two of his dreams.”

It was the second time that Baumeister was awarded with an handmade trophy after he had won PGS Bronze and PSL Gold at the 2013 FIS Junior World Championships in Erzurum Turkey.

Snowboard Germany's Head Coach Race Paul Marks won the Coach of the Year award, SBX athlete Leon Beckhaus the Rookie of the Year award.
