Gerlitzen host successful Austrian national championships

With only one week away from the 2021 FIS Snowboard Alpine World Championships in Rogla (SLO) some of the world’s best snowboard alpine racers competed in a successful Austrian national championships staged at the Austria Snowboard Challange this past weekend in Gerlitzen (AUT).

Over 100 athletes representing 17 different nations took it to the parallel giant slalom course on Saturday, while the parallel slalom competitions followed up on Sunday.

Starting with women’s competition it was Sabine Schoeffmann who claimed the PGS Austrian championship title on Saturday, winning the big final matchup against Canada’s Megan Farrell. It was the second national championships title for Schoeffmann, with her first one coming over a decade ago in Kasberg back in 2009.

Third place on the day went to Julia Dujmovits (AUT), who edged out her teammate Claudia Riegler in the women’s small final. Consequently Dujmovits finished the Austrian championships in second place, while Riegler rounded out the podium in third place.

Over on the men’s side of the event Andreas Prommegger, who claimed his seventh title, and his first one since 2016, after he came victorious against his teammate Sebastian Kislinger in the big final matchup.

Tim Mastnak (SLO) finished the competition in third place winning the small final against Sebastian Beaulieu (CAN). Alexander Payer (AUT) finished the day in fifth place, rounding out the PGS Austrian championships podium in third.

Moving over to Sunday’s PSL competition it was Megan Farrell, who backed up her Saturday’s second place finish with a big victory the next day, beating Austria’s Daniela Ulbing in the big final.  Consequently as top-ranked Austrian athlete, Ulbing claimed the PSL national championship title, which also was the career’s fourth for the 22-year-old snowboarder.

Pia Schoeffmann won the small final matchup against Julia Dujmovits, finishing in the respective third and fourth place on the day, while also completing the PSL Austrian championships podium in second and third.

In the men’s PSL competition it was Alexander Payer, who wrapped up an exciting weekend with a win, while claiming his career’s third Austrian championship title. In the big final Payer edged out Canada’s Arnaud Gaudet.

Tim Mastnak finished the day in third place after coming victorious in the small final matchup against Italy’s Gabriel Messner.

Aron Juritz and Fabian Obmann, who were ranked in sixth and seventh place on the day, completed the Austrian PSL championship’s podium in the respective second and third place.
