Sneak preview: 2022/23 Snowboard Alpine World Cup

There is still more than three months left before the world’s best alpine snowboarder will officially kick off the World Cup campaign in December, but before we get there let’s take a quick look at what’s to come in a highly anticipated 2022/23 season.

The 2022/23 season is slated to get underway in the first week of December in Livigno (ITA), the future host  of all freestyle and snowboard disciplines at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games. After hosting its only snowboard alpine World Cup event back in 2000, Livigno was back on the World Cup calendar in 2019/20, but unfortunately the event had to be called off due to the covid-19 pandemic. Now, everything looks to be back on the right track as Livigno will be looking for a successful World Cup comeback with both parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom scheduled for December 3-4.

With back-to-back competitions in Livigno, the tour will then travel to Winterberg (GER), which will also see a pair of competitions including the season’s first team event. The first part of the season before the holidays will wrap up with two PGS classic races in Italian Dolomites on December 15 and 17, in Carezza and Cortina d’Ampezzo, respectively.

Following the holiday break, the World Cup tour will come back to action on January 10-11 with an iconic parallel slalom under the lights and parallel slalom team competitions in Austria’s Bad Gastein. Then it’s back to the scene of some of the most epic views on tour in Scuol (SUI) on Jan 14, before we roll on to Bansko (BUL), which is slated to welcome back the snowboard alpine World Cup action with both PGS and PSL races on Jan 20-21. To finish the second part of the season, the tour will then travel to Canada for the first time since 2019/20 season with parallel giant slalom and parallel giant slalom competitions on Jan 26-27.

February will see the Bakuriani 2023 World Championships go down from February 19 until March 5 and on the snowboard side of things we’ll get the ball rolling with women’s and men’s parallel giant slalom competition on 19 Feb, followed by parallel slalom on 21 Feb, and then parallel slalom mixed team competition on 22 Feb.

Following a little break after the pinnacle event of the season in Georgia, the World Cup tour will then enter the final stretch of the 2022/23 season with three events scheduled over the course of March. At first, the tour will come back to Italy with two races on March 11-12 in Piancavallo. Then the final parallel giant slalom in 2022/23 will go down in Rogla (SLO) on Mar 15, before we’ll wrap things up yet once again in Berchtesgaden (GER) with parallel slalom and parallel slalom team races on Mar 18-19.

Furthermore the snowboard alpine season will see plenty of action at the European Cup and Nor-Am Cup, with numerous FIS level events also scheduled along the way.

Last but no least, the FIS Junior World Championships will take place in Bansko (BUL) on March 22-27.
