Elisa Caffont and Maurizio Bormolini led an Italian one-two in the mixed team snowboard parallel slalom event at the 2025 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships on Sunday.

The two beat compatriots Gabriel Messner and Jasmin Coratti in the big final to claim the gold.

Caffont and Bormolini never looked in doubt as they were on top of the leaderboard all day: first in qualifications and later in each round they competed in.

Perfect revenge

The gold medal meant a lot to Bormolini after a disappointing individual result on Saturday.

“Yesterday was a difficult race for me, because I made some mistakes. Today, I wanted to take my revenge. I’m so happy. It was a perfect day.”Bormolini said.

“I was really confident”, Bormolini added. “I think she (Caffont) was also really confident for this race. How we feel together is important. When she has a bad day she can ask me something, and when I have a bad day I can ask her and talk (about it) together. I think that’s really important and that creates a special feeling. I think that’s our secret”, he said.

Caffont struggled to believe she and Bormolini had just landed on top of the World Championships podium. “Winning the World Championships, with Maurizio, for me is (like) ‘wow’. Yesterday I did not have the perfect race. So today I’m really happy we’ve done this together”, Caffont said.

Bronze for Prommegger and Payer

Austria’s Andreas Prommegger and Sabine Payer joined the two Italian teams on the podium. The Austrian pair was unable to upgrade the silver medal from two years ago after losing to Caffont and Bormolini in the semi-final, but triumphed in the small final beating home favorites and 2023 bronze medalists Dario Caviezel and Julie Zogg (SUI).

It was a second disappointment for the Swiss duo after they had received a disqualification in the semi-final earlier after Caviezel ran over a stubby.

Italians in great form

The entire Italian team, however, showed to be in great form throughout the day. Their three teams made it to the quarterfinals in Engadin, with Caffont and Bormolini eventually claiming the gold.

Caffont said it was nice to compete against an Italian team in the big final.

“We’re all really good friends, so for sure it was better to do the race together. I think the Italian team is strong because of this.”Caffont said

Gold in 2023, gold now for Italy

It’s Italy’s second gold medal in the event since the mixed team snowboard parallel slalom made its World Championships debut in 2023.

Back then, Aaron March and Nadya Orchner claimed the title. While Ochner stepped away from the sport since then, March teamed up with Elisa Fava. The duo failed to make it through the quarterfinals in Engadin, however. March and Fava ended up in sixth place.

The mixed team parallel slalom event marked the end of snowboard alpine action at the 2025 FIS Snowboard World Championships. With that, the 2024/25 snowboard alpine season came to an end. After a long season of World Cup action, with a lot of races, FIS wishes all the athletes a good break and all the best with the preparations for the Olympic year.
