With the qualifiers in the books at Klinovec, the first part of the junior world trilogy has just begun.

107 riders, 64 male and 41 women, were going for the final spots in the knock out rounds on the 680 metres long course in the Czech Ski Resort with wind and flat light making the time trials a bit more difficult.

In the women's qualifiers, Kristina Paul from Russia underlined her claim on gold edging off Meryeta Odine (CAN), who came in strong with her first World Cup podium finish earned at last weekend's World Cup in Germany, to the second rank.

Caterina Carpano (ITA) also was fast posting the third best time.

Over in the men's event, US rising stars Senna Leith and Jake Vedder, the gold medallist from the 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games, were first and second with Czech rider Matous Koudelka sitting in third.

Full results can be viewed here.

Finals will take place tomorrow at 12 PM CET with the team event scheduled for Sunday.
