Monday Mix - July 1, 2019
Jul 01, 2019·Snowboard CrossHappy July, everybody, and welcome to this week's edition of the Mix!
From a winter season hitting full swing down south of the equater, to the sunny glaciers of the Alps, to a roller coaster skatepark in Germany, here's some of the highlights from the world of snowboarding this past week...
Rocco Jameison (NZL) Cardrona edit
The World Cup season will once again kick off in New Zealand's Cardrona Alpine Resort for 2019/20, with big air action going down on Cardrona's megajump from August 24-25. Cardrona Parks just release this edit from 12-year-old ripper Rocco Jameison and it's got us frothing to get down south of the equator and back on board ASAP...
French SBX squad having fun in Val d'Isere
Although they claim to be hard at work training for the upcoming season, from what we've seen out of the French SBX team's social feeds over the last couple of weeks it looks more like they're busy just having an awesome time in the sun. Ripping laps in their undies, chucking backflips out of pond skims, or making party waves out of glacier pools...where can we sign up for this summer camp?
Italian SBX team training at Meran
Though they might not have quite as much shenanigans happening (from what we can see) the Italian team was pumping some good content out from their training camp last week in Sud Tirol's Meran resort, with Raffaella Bruto and Omar Visintin both experimenting with Insta's new IGTV features to give their fans a more in-depth behind the scenes look...
Stanislav Detkov (RUS) perfect hardboot pond carve
We probably should have known that the perfect water carve would come from a race boarder, as Stanislav Detkov laid down this beauty last week at home in Russia...
Snowboarder Mag's summer sessions wrap up at Copper Mtn
The latest of Snowboarder Magazine's summer sessions went down at Copper Mountain last week and it looked like ripping good time from front to back with plenty of good riding going down, with this clip of Zeb Powell being one of our favourites:
Things really went to the next level with the long jump competition, though. Respect the straight, sketchy, no-grab send, friends...
English slopestyle finals go down indoors in Yorkshire
England in June is one of the last places you'd probably be thinking of to find a snowboard competition taking place on actual snow, but that's just what happened this past weekend at the English slopestyle championships, which went down at Yorkshire's Snozone indoor facility...
Chloe Kim (USA) taking questions for YouTube Q&A
Want to pick the mind of a champion? Halfpipe queen and reigning Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim is taking questions for her an upcoming YouTube Q&A over on her Instagram page, here. Check out her last YouTube question session below...
Coaching changes for US squad
From the US Ski and Snowboard website:
"The end of the 2018-19 competition season brought significant change to the U.S. Freeski and Snowboard teams’ staff. U.S. Freeski Slopestyle/Big Air Pro Team Coach D.J. Montigny and Snowboardcross Coach Jeff Archibald are stepping down after incredibly successful careers with the national team. Archibald was with the organization for 17 years and Montigny for seven. Although they will no longer be coaching athletes to the podium, their hard work, wisdom, and guidance will leave a lasting impact on the organization as a whole."

Roope Tonteri (FIN) competes in Redbull Roller Coaster
Featuring a single, massive, continuous line snaking down a hillside, the Redbull Roller Coaster is one of the coolest skateboarding competitions out there, and this past weekend three-time FIS Snowboard world champion and way-above-average skater Roope Tonteri took part in the event at Munich's Olympiapark, where he finished an impressive 8th overall. Check out the full replay HERE.
Liam Brearley (CAN) is good at wakeboarding
A young Canadian rider who seems poised to make the jump to full-time World Cup action very soon, Liam Brearley is also an incredible wakeboarder, as this clip from his Insta account attests to. Seems like something we might be seeing on the snow from the 16-year-old in the future, no?
Staale Sandbech (NOR) and nature's fireworks
And, finally, we'll end things off this week with a little bit of the awe and majesty of Mother Nature, as Staale Sandbech and friends caught this incredible shot on the beach in Costa Rica this past weekend...
