Monday Mix - June 22, 2020
Jun 22, 2020·Snowboard CrossIt's finally officially summer in the northern hemisphere (and officially WINTER in the south), but still the Monday Mix marches bravely on. This week we're serving up a handful of national team selections for the 2020/21 season, getting pitted in Waco, running some hot laps in Val d'Isere, and much, much more.
But first up we're flashing back to a delicious chicken salad served up by Matty McCormick last season in Laax...
Tasty stuff!
With that appetizer out of the way, let's launch into a little news, beginning with the results of our latest #ClassicsLive poll, where the star-studded Spindlyruv Mlyn Snowjam slopestyle World Cup from the 2012/13 season came out on top. Keep your eye on our social channels on Wednesday when the competition will be going live in its entirety on our YouTube channel and on Facebook...
A couple of national team announcements to cover now, as both the Canadians and Swedes revealed their rosters for the 2020/21 season. Lots of heavies on both sides, with the likes of Mark McMorris, Sebastien Toutant, and Max Parrot repping the maple leaf, and Sven Thorgren and Niklas Mattsson flying the blue and yellow...
It seems like mail is getting through to Italy now, as the queen of SBX for 2019/20 Michela Moioli finally got her hands on her crystal globe. With PyeongChang 2018 Olympic gold, four world championships medals, and now THREE crystal globes, sometimes its easy to forget that Ms Moioli is still just 24-years-old and likely to add many, many more trophies to her collection in the coming years...
Sticking with snowboard cross for a minute here, our friends over at SBX Life have a fresh interview with Germany's Paul Berg up now, and have just announced that the SBX G.O.A.T. herself will be next up in the hotseat, as the USA's Lindsey Jacobellis will answer questions on Wednesday...
As much as we love talking SBX, we love watching it even more, so thank goodness for the French squad who have converged in Val d'Isere for some summer training. Now, although we say "summer" training, looking at the quality of this start section and the snow coverage up on the glacier in France it's tough to believe we're looking at footage from June...
Also experiencing insanely good conditions for June? Stelvio, Italy, where our 2019/20 alpine overall crystal globe winner Roland Fischnaller has been lacing some turns on what's looking like an extremely solid snowpack...
Sunday saw a couple of big days celebrated, with both Father's Day and Go Skateboarding Day going down. Plenty of riders around the world were giving shout-outs to their dads or, as in the case of the USA's Nick Baumgartner, were giving shout-outs to the kids that call them "dad"...
And of course plenty of riders were also fitting a solid skate sesh into their day, with Baumgartner's US compatriot Dusty Henricksen casually crushing it in this cruisey park clip...
Summer activity update #1: Anna Gasser and her sister remain incredibly good at mindbending strength and balance tricks...
Summer activity update #2: Jakob Dusek don't need no hands to send it deep on his mountain bike...
Summer activity update #3: Shaun White, Brock Crouch, and Lindsey Jacobellis got together to get barrelled at the BSR Surf Resort artificial wave ranch in Texas...
Alright, time to collect our favourite snowshred clips of the week, beginning with Canadian young gun Liam Brearley and this flashback to his first-ever World Cup podium, earned on home soil in Calgary last season...
Next up is another Liam, as France's Tourki dropped a couple of sweet, smooth clips from at home on the glacier in Les 2 Alpes...
Swiss rider Nicolas Huber has hopped across the border to Austria's BangerPark, and looking at the pure perfection of this dryslope kicker it is not hard to understand why. This thing is legit, and if you don't believe us then just check out the pop HuberCop gets on that triple...
Luke Winkelmann is up at Mt Hood and just TEASING us with a quick photo update at this point. Luke, buddy, we need video clips and we need them now...
Italian wildman Gian Marco Maiocco looks like he's been having a pretty good time in the spring slush at the Garden Snowboard Camp in Madonna di Campiglio...
Nothing but style and it's goin' on for miles when Kyle Mack drops in...
And we'll finish things of for this week's week's Monday Mix with Mons Roisland, who closed out his time at Norway's Hovden Parken with the type of blissed-out spring sunset slash-and-dash that dreams are made of...
Beauty.
That's it for this week! Thanks for hanging out with us and we'll see ya back here next Monday.
