Triple gold for Switzerland in Sprint events

Amelie Wenger-Reymond triumphed in the women’s sprint event at the FIS Telemark World Championships in Rjukan and Switzerland celebrated a double gold in the individuals as Stefan Matter triumphed at the men’s sprint event.

Wenger-Reymond had proved the dominant force during the World Cup season and she impressed again in the Norwegian town of Rjukan. The favourite completed the sprint distance event in 1:45.24 and was followed by France’s Argeline Tan Bouquet, who finished the two runs in 1:46.49. Germany’s Johanna Holzmann completed the podium places after clocking 1:46.87.

An unbeatable time of 1:35.81 had Stefan Matter (SUI) repeat the feat in the men’s race with Phillipe Lau (FRA) proved his nearest challenger after he crossed the finish line 1.70 seconds behind the winning time. Bronze was claimed by Jure Ales, the Slovenian completing the two runs in 1:39.10.

Final Results

Switzerland’s double gold in the sprint competitions came after their victory in the mixed team parallel sprint event, in which they beat Germany and France to the gold
