The Telemark season 2018/2019 will kick off in La Thuile (ITA) 20th-21stJanuary 2019 and the world’s best telemarkers are eager to compete in the first races of the World Championship season.

La Thuile is located in the Aosta Valley of northwest Italy and has a rich history of hosting Telemark races. The opening weekend will be contested on the same slope that hosted three women’s World Cup races in February 2016 and two FIS Telemark World Cup races in January 2017.

Piste number 3in the ski area, named after Franco Berthod, an athlete who helped forge the history of Alpine skiing in La Thuile, is one of the most technically interesting: it’s a black run which descends from Les Suches plateau through the forests above La Thuile, reaching the town after almost three kilometres of challenging walls and sweeping corners.

For the ladies’ event watch out for Amelie Reymond (SUI) who is back on the Telemark circuit after a break and who won the last races few races in La Thuile, as well as Mathilde Olsen Ilebrekke (NOR) who was also on the podium in 2007. On the men’s side, Bastien Dayer (SUI) and Philippe Lau (FRA) will start as favourites.
