FIS Telemark World Cup Opening - Pralognan-la-Vanoise

The FIS Telemark World Cup season is officially on. The season opening event was taking place in the beautiful village of Pralognan-la-Vanoise in France. On Friday 24th January the Sprint events took place and for both the men and women, with victories being taken in both races by the Swiss team.

The first run of the Women’s race was an exciting battle between the last years overall winner Amelie Wenger-Reymond of Switzerland, and Johanna Holzmann from Germany.  Holzmann was able to take the first run lead by just 0.60 seconds.  In the second run, Holzmann was unable to hold off a resilient effort from Wenger-Reymond and landed in second place behind the Swiss champion. Switzerland’s Beatrice Zimmermann took the bronze medal.

On the men’s side, the race was once more dominated by the Swiss, with Bastian Dayer winning both runs.  Followed by teammate Stefan Matter, and Germany’s Jonas Schmid in the first run, Dayer maintained his lead, while Matter and Schmid were unable to hold onto their positions, with Slovenian Jure Ales and fan favorite Noe Claye from France rounding out the podium in second and third respectively.

On Saturday the Lactalis Telemark World Cup in Pralognan-la-vanoise came to an end with an exciting sprint race today.

On the Women’s side, Johanna Holzmann of Germany took the first run lead, with over a second advantage over Switzerlands Amelie Wenger-Reymond. Skiing into third place was Great Britain’s Jasmin Taylor.

In the Men’s race, it was Bastien Dayer of Switzerland once again taking the first run lead, followed by yesterday’s silver medalist Jure Ales of Slovenia, and Jonas Schmid of Germany.

In the second run, Holzmann was able to hold on to her lead by 0.38 seconds. Remaining in silver and bronze medal positions were Wenger-Reymond and Taylor.

In the men’s final, the Swiss men were able to take over the podium, with Stefan Matter and Nicolas Michel advancing into second and third position respectively behind Dayer who again skied a blistering run to take his second victory of the season.

The FIS Telemark World Cup action continues next week in Samoens, (FRA) from the 29th - 31st of January.
