Ski cross qualifications cancelled in Watles
Aug 31, 2018·Ski CrossDue to the strong wind, low visibility and continuing snowfall especially in the higher sections of the ski cross course in Watles (ITA), the qualifications for both Saturday's and Sunday's races had to be cancelled. Unfortunately the weather didn't play at all with the organizers and made it impossible to run the competition today.
"The conditions today created the security issues and that's why the jury decided to cancel qualifications" said Martin Fiala, the FIS Ski Cross Race Director. "We've already worked on the plan and we will have one additional round in the finals for both races" he concluded.
Adding the pre-heat round means that now 32 ladies and 64 men will directly compete in the finals on Saturday and Sunday with the seeding based upon the World Cup standing list, making the competition even more exciting. It's worth mentioning that this solution was first implemented on the World Cup tour last year in Watles.
With the unfavorable weather forecast for the weekend one things remain certain and it's the fact that all the previous predictions haven't been very accurate. The weather in Watles has been changing very dynamically and within the span of few hours everything from bluebird to heavy snowstorm is possible to scroll through the sky. With that in mind the chances for the weekend's competition are still very high and let's hope that the weather will finally allow the athletes to do what they're best at i.e. racing.
Saturday's action start at 9.30 CET with the pre-heat round with the finals set to go at 11:00 CET.
