The FIS Junior Ski World Championships in ski cross went down on Thursday in Reiteralm (AUT), with Zoe Chore of Canada taking the win in the ladies’ competition, while the Swedish racer David Mobaerg took the gold medal on the men’s side.

It was a long and exciting day of ski cross action on Thursday with a full competition schedule including "the race against the clock" qualification round held early in the morning as well as the classic heat rounds finals scheduled for the afternoon hours.

And with more than 100 world’s best young racers born between 1998 and 2002 and the fast and challenging course at the Prinoth Crosspark Reiteralm, the 2019 edition of the ski cross FIS Junior Ski World Championships was without a doubt one for the books.

In the ladies’ event it was the Canadian Zoe Chore who defended the JWCs title for the Maple Leaf, edging out in the big final Talina Gantenbein of Switzerland, Celia Funkler of Germany and Klara Kasparova (CZE), who finished the competition in second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Chore wrapped up a successful season in a great fashion with the victory on Thursday, to add to her ski cross Nor-Am 2018/19 title (including five wins) as well as an impressive debut on the World Cup circuit on home soil at Blue Mountain in January where she finished in 16th place.

Over on the men’s side of the event it was David Mobaerg of Sweden, who took the gold medal ahead of the second Gavin Rowell of Canada, third Douglas Crawford of Australia, and Cornel Renn of Germany rounding out the men’s big final in fourth.

It is definitely the biggest success in Mobaerg’s career, who has been competing on the World Cup level since 2018.  His best results so far came right at his World Cup debut in Arosa, where he finished the competition in 11th place. Mobaerg also made it into the top-10 at the 2019 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships in Solitude (USA).
