The FIS Grassski World Cup continues in Rettenbach (AUT)
Jun 23, 2021·Ski CrossThe FIS Grasski World Cup continued in the Austrian ski center Rettenbach with a busy schedule of six competitions in three disciplines. Hometown hero Kristin Posch took double wins in GS and SG in her first World Cup starts after becoming a mother. Italy dominated among the men with two victories in three races thanks to Frau and Zamboni.
The first day was dedicated to Giant Slalom in the morning and Super G in the afternoon and Sunday belonged to slalom.
Saturday’s Giant Slalom offered a very tight fight and the men’s pole positions were distributed amongst experienced Mirko Hueppi (SUI), Hannes Angerer (AUT), and Marcel Knapp (GER). Angerer missed the lead by only a 0,01s and Knapp finished only 0,03 behind him. Among the women, Austrian skier Kristin Posch won with foresight of 0,23s and came ahead of the second ranked Sarka Abrahamova (CZE) and Nikola Fricova (SVK).
In the afternoon, Eduardo Frau (ITA) secured a win in Super G and was followed by Hannes Angerer (AUT), who also took the overall lead in World Cup standings, and the winner of morning’s Giant Slalom Mirko Hueppi (SUI). The history repeated in women’s Super G when Kristin Posch (AUT) came first and underlined her comeback. She was followed by young Italian athletes, Margherita Mazzoncini and Ambra Gasperi.
The Sunday’s track for slalom, was very tricky. But it was again a successful race for the Italian team who managed to fight with the difficult conditions well, as another skier, Filippo Zamboni dominated in slalom and took his first World Cup win of his career. Marcel Knapp (GER) came second and Leopold Schoen (AUT) third.
The second medal of the weekend for Slovakia secured Nikola Fricova who celebrated her first victory in the World Cup and stopped the dominance of Kristin Posch (AUT) who came second and was followed by Ambra Gasperi (ITA). Thanks to the win Fricova is the new leader of the ladies World Cup Overall.
The next FIS Grassski World Cup stop will take place in Predklasteri, Czech Republic, in the beginning of July. The peak of the season will be The World Championships in Stitna nad Vlari from 6 to 11 September 2021.
