Granerud wins final competition in Lake Placid

Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud won the third and last competition of the ski jumping weekend in Lake Placid (USA). Andreas Wellinger and Stefan Kraft completed the podium on Sunday. The return to Lake Placid after a 33-year break was a triumphant success for the ski jumpers.

"I had to get used to this facility and after the first two days didn't go according to my wishes, it worked today, today my jumps were good and I am very happy with myself and my victory" explained the day's winner. For Granerud it was the 23rd World Cup victory altogether.

"That was an awesome competition today. The conditions and the weather were a dream, my jumps on super level, actually even better than yesterday, but today someone else was just better. But of course I am more than satisfied with this weekend, finally on the podium again", Andreas Wellinger was happy about his second place. Wellinger had already won the first individual competition on Saturday, the Bavarian had to wait almost 6 years for victory.

Stefan Kraft explained: "That was a really cool competition, it was not easy with the conditions, everything had to fit together. I think the three best were in front today if you look at the trainings. I am megahappy."

Karl Geiger, Ryoyu Kobayashi and Timi Zajc finished 4th-6th, Dawid Kubacki was 7th and lost more points to leader Granerud in the overall World Cup ranking. Granerud now leads with 1652 points ahead of Kubacki (1359 points).

Glorious weather and a full house
As on the previous day, the ski jumping stadium was again well filled, again more than 10,000 fans had gathered to experience the ski jumping spectacle of the extra class live.

The athletes start their journey home directly from the hill via Montreal airport. Next week, the World Cup in Rasnov (ROU) is on the agenda before the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica.

Excellent reviews for the organisers
"We should definitely come back here, what the organisers have delivered in the past few days is great. I hope we will have Lake Placid permanently in the ski jumping calendar in the future, this is a wonderful place for ski jumping," said Norway's coach Alex Stöckl.

"We are all really impressed with what has been achieved here over the past few days. Lake Placid will also be part of the ski jumping calendar in the future, we will plan for the long term and definitely want Lake Placid to be an integral part of that planning" explained FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile.
